Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club, is a Semi-Private, 18 hole golf course located in Haines City, Florida.
The course first opened for play in 1993. The course was designed by Steve Smyers.
Southern Dunes is a lengthy course with rolling hills, sand bunkers and water hazards that come into play. The greens are undulating and sloped.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 7,227 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4,987 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 4, a par-5 that plays to 555 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 14, a par-3 that plays to 167 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 7, a 454 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Southern Dunes Golf Course is # 14, the 167 yard par-3.
The par-3 holes at Southern Dunes all play down hill giving golfers beautiful views of greens and present holes that truly have distinction. There are five par-4 holes that stretch more than 420 yards from the back tees and three that play less than 380 yards long. The shorter ones make golfers play smart off the tee and with the approach, while the longer ones call for some muscle to get the ball on the putting greens in regulation. The par-5's allow for some mistakes from the tee box, however, these holes offer tough risk reward opportunities.

Despite some of the media hyperbola of late, Southern Dunes continues to be the premier golf course with availability to every level of player. Priced within the reach of everyone, but still a challenging test for the better players.

Southern Dunes is a great course. The houses along the course do not distract from the natural beauty of the course itself. The Winter over seed with rye grass was just starting to fill in the rough due to the recent cool weather in the area. The Winter transition of the grass from Bermuda to Rye on the fairways and greens was well established when we last played it. The fairways and greens are always some of the best anywhere. There is a large amount of sand that seems intimidating at first, but focus on the large landing areas and the sand soon becomes less of a hazard than originally thought. Pick the tee boxes (4 options)that match your skill level and it plays fair for everybody. The food in the club house is very good, and reasonably priced. Despite being just 20 minutes from Disney, the course is never busy. As a semi-private club, with the option of daily fee play, it offers the quality of a private club but open to everybody. You can't go wrong playing Southern Dunes.

As with my last comment this course continues to delight all skill levels. At present, the greens condition is suffering from the continuous rain. (Yeah, yeah, typical Floridian, either too much or too little rain.) Give a couple of weeks of medium dry weather to allow the greens to get back in condition and you will again have one of the best in Central Florida.

Southern Dunes continues to delight. This is the type of course that will drive golfers of every stripe absolutely mad until they can learn to play it well. A very fair test for every skill level.

Good layout with alot of traps. Greens were fast and hard to hold. Overall conditions were very good. Only negative was the number of homes. As part of our golf trip I enjoyed the round here and replayed same day. Would go back again.

We've played this course 2 years in a row now on our golf trip. We love it, challenging but great lay-out and the staff is 4Star.
